The link below is to an article that appeared on the Atlantic's website and was tweeted a number of times yesterday. After reading the article I could not agree more! Deirdre Mask captured what I bet many NPR listeners have thought many times while listening. I often find myself in my car and saying the by-line out loud with the the reporter ... just because his or her name is so fun to say! Sylvia Poggioli has always been my favorite - she has a such a distinctive voice, and Cokie Roberts - who knew her real name was so long! The idea that many women reporters keep their maiden name in whole or part if they marry during their careers is an interesting commentary on brand. Perhaps it is evidence that repeat recognition is important to building a brand.
