Global Shop - From the Show Floor
Interesting first day at Global Shop. Had a great conversation with the Amerlux lighting team. They are exploring the idea of using science to adjust the industries thinking on how we measure the value of lighting. As I often tell clients, the lighting industry has been changing at a rapid pace since LEDs have become the norm for a light source.
Technology keeps on improving so there is always something new out there. Adam Pew and I spent some time yesterday talking with Bill Plageman, VP of Marketing, Product Managment & Customer Support. We skimmed the surface of the science behind how we see light color and how we perceive brightness. Bill had a great point - if the technology behind the lighting today is so different from the incandescent lighting sources of the past - and we know so much more about how customers see light - why do we insist on measuring light in exactly the same ways as we did in the past? Are there opportunities to measure and determine value differently that mean we get more effective lighting in our stores and possibly save energy?
This is really important long term for our industry. I often tell client's to plan for a bigger budget in lighting in a retail brand environment. It is the most important thing to get right.
Looking forward to learning more from the show floor today!
